This article summarizes how to choose a domain registrar.
What is a Domain Registrar?
A domain registrar is a business that accepts domain name registration applications and registers them with a registry (an organization that manages the domain database).
Hosting Services and Domain Registrars
When you sign up for a hosting plan, some plans allow you to sign up for your own domain at the same time.
It is easier to manage your domain if you sign up with a hosting service.
Generally, we recommend that you sign up for a domain at the same time you choose the hosting service you plan to use.
Example of Hosting Services and Domain
Below we will discuss some examples of hosting services and domain registries:
- Kinsta
- Hostinger
- Bluehost
Kinsta and Domain

https://kinsta.com/docs/wordpress-hosting/wordpress-domains/
Kinsta provides hosting services, but it is not a service that allows you to sign up for a domain.
You will need to purchase a domain separately and link it to Kinsta’s hosting services.
Hostinger and Domain

Hostinger not only offers hosting services, but also domain registration services. You can sign up for both the hosting service and the service at the same time, so if you use Hostinger, you should also sign up for a domain.
Bluehost and Domain

Bluehost is a service that provides both domain and hosting services. If you use Bluehost’s server, it will be easier to manage if you also subscribe to a domain at the same time.
Separate Domain Registrar and Hosting Services
There are a few reasons why you might want to purchase and manage your domain from a service separate from your hosting service:
- The hosting service you want to use doesn’t offer domain registration services
- You want to use a service that offers cheap domain contract fees
- The string you want to use is after the . (dot)
WHOIS Protection
Your domain is available to lookup from ICANN tool. To be lookup, Register Information is opened to anybody.
